Kate is a documentary filmmaker, photographer  and writer in Toronto, Canada. Her work focuses on the stories hidden in plain sight and the act of using film to bring them to light and into conversation.

Kate Colenbrander is a filmmaker, photographer and writer. Her work focuses on stories that lie right underneath the surface of exposure. This has included films on the climate crisis, food security, the arts, migrant worker’s rights and grief. She also works in collaboration with nonprofits for new avenues of video coverage from documentary to educational series to boost their messages.

She holds an BA in Anthropology and Political Science from the University of British Columbia and an MA in Ethnographic Documentary film from University College London. During her Masters she created multiple films featured in international festivals, winning an audience award and receiving a spot on the Dean’s list.

Her work is research intensive and people driven, deeply focused on the impact art can have on moving the needle of social change.
